Microsoft 365 Tenant Performance Monitoring

Track and visualize M365 Tenant Service health, security, users, and licensing

Slow or inaccessible Microsoft 365 tenants may cause users not to be able to sign-in to Microsoft Teams, SharePoint pages not to load correctly, slow uploads and page response time, slow or stuck mail queues, and so on.

Monitoring the availability and performance of your Microsoft 365 tenant will save you lots of time and money. The graphing and alerting options allow you to be aware of issues before end-users are.

What is a Microsoft 365 Tenant?

A Microsoft 365 Tenant hosts the Microsoft 365 services assigned to your company. It is typically associated with your public DNS domain. The tenant is your central, isolated container for your companies’ subscriptions, including the licenses assigned to your user accounts.

Fireproof Microsoft 365 Tenant Operations

The NiCE Active 365 Management Pack monitors the Health Status, active users, token acquisition, licensing, as well as the Microsoft Secure Score of each tenant. If issues occur, you are right on the spot to find the detailed source, plus get detailed advice on troubleshooting performance issues of your M365 tenant.

Monitoring the Microsoft 365 Tenant Health

The M365 Tenant Health can be divided into five sub-areas, which are Web-, Client Application-, Mobile Device Management-, Portal-, and Identity Service Health. Each of them has, given by their names, different purposes by means of their service delivery. The NiCE Management Pack helps you keep track of all different health sources within one interface.

Microsoft 365 Identity Service Health

The Microsoft 365 Identity platform is used to create applications you can sign in to using their Microsoft identities or social accounts. These applications provide authorized access to own APIs or Microsoft APIs such as Microsoft Graph.
Monitoring the Identity Service Health State will alert and report on unwanted login failures or latencies of custom apps.

Microsoft 365 Client Application Health

Microsoft Office 365 applications include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Access and Publisher, SharePoint, Exchange Server, Yammer, MyAnalytics, OneDrive, Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams, and Power BI. The integrated monitoring of the Microsoft 365 client application health helps you determine latencies as reported by Microsoft.

Microsoft 365 Portal Health

The Microsoft Admin Portal is the central place to manage your Microsoft 365 subscriptions. The web-based portal allows for basic user administration such as adding and removing users, changing licenses, and password management.
Monitoring the Microsoft 365 Admin Portal Health State helps to determine whether this is a known issue with a resolution in progress.

Microsoft 365 Web Health

Office 365 web enables working on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and PDF documents in your web browser. The integrated monitoring of the Microsoft 365 Web Health helps you determine the latencies of these web-based services as reported by Microsoft.

Ensure Best User Experience for Your M365 Tenants

User adoption is directly tied to the user experience. Therefore, it is most important to ensure essential user operations, such as email, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive, as well as identity management, work like a charm.

Get Alerted on User Licenses in a Warning State

User licenses in a warning state may be compromised, or nearing their license expiry. An expired M365 Tenant license will cause your users not to be able to login to any service hosted on that tenant.

The NiCE Active 365 Management Pack helps you avoid such scenarios. It traces and reports on upcoming license expiries, so you can take upfront action to make sure you users are all covered.

Ensure Microsoft 365 Token Acquisition Works

If the message “Token Not Found” appears, this means that a client app or a user’s access is denied. Preventing such delays helps a lot in fostering M365 user adoption.

What is a Microsoft token? The Microsoft identity platform authenticates users and provides security tokens, such as access tokens, refresh tokens, and ID tokens. Security tokens allow a client application to access protected resources on a resource server.

Monitoring the Microsoft 365 Tenant Security

There are tons of best practices published on the web for securing the M365 tenant.
Microsoft actively helps companies address this by reflecting the companies’ specific Secure Score, indicating areas of concern. Administrators are aware of and follow these principles.

Integrating Your Microsoft 365 Secure Score

The Microsoft 365 Secure Score represents the organization’s security posture. It is a measurement by Microsoft, accessible in the Microsoft 365 Defender portal.

The NiCE Management Pack mirrors the Secure Score into SCOM, so you have all security-related information in one place.

Application Secret Expiration Monitoring

Each Azure Tenant contains a larger number of Enterprise Applications. Each Enterprise Application can have one or more “Application Secrets” that are used to prevent unauthorized access to the application.
What happens if the “Application Secret” expires? There is no notification. All consumers of the application will simply receive an error and business key logic can fail.

The NiCE Active 365 Management Pack has a builtin monitor to check every application secret and how long it is valid. Before a secret expires you will get triggered.

Enterprise Application Compliance Monitoring

Companies may decide to hide certain tenant information from internal employees. This can be for example an application for executive use only. Or that a specific application must receive special permissions to be used.

These settings of the Enterprise Application can be monitored using the NiCE Active 365 Management Pack.

Master M365 Tenant-Wide Licensing like a Hero

Knowing the exact number of licenses in warning state for all Microsoft 365 license types is a big advantage. When managing complex Microsoft 365 environments, running Teams, Exchange Online, OneDrive, AAD Connect, plus all other essential desktop tools such as Outlook, Word, and Excel, it is a must-have.

The NiCE Management Pack tracks and reports the license counts and states back to you, so you are always on top of the licensing game.
